About the Company…
I always receive inquiries about the company name, Magan Commerce. People want to know what it means. What IS “Magan”, what does that mean? Most people assume it is someone’s name… maybe a woman’s first name (you would not believe the amount of correspondence I receive addressed to Megan Commerce), or maybe “Magan” is the last name of the company President or Owner. Well, I am the President AND Owner and my last name is Hutcheson, not Magan.
So what does it mean?
When I formed this company a couple of years ago, it was after experiencing several utter failures in the arena of home-based or personal business. I was determined to fail no more, and wanted the very name of my company to illustrate that success was imminent. I therefore decided on the rather strange and peculiar moniker of Magan Commerce. The word “Magan” (and it IS a word) is an Old English root word meaning, literally, to be able. The word “Commerce” usually refers to trading, usually of commodities, on a very large scale. It is not and has never been my intention or desire to be able to trade commodities on a large scale. There are two other definitions of the word “Commerce” which I like much better and which I had in mind when I named the company. One definition broadly defines the word “Commerce” as being synonymous with the word “Business”. Under this definition, Magan Commerce basically means simply to be able to do business. I thought this was a perfect name for my company because the goal for myself as well as those I intended to educate, was simply that… to be able to do business. Success is implied, because of course, you are certainly not able to do business if you cannot stay in business (a basic element that still eluded me for some time despite my new company name). Another definition of the word Commerce” is: interchange of ideas, opinions, or sentiments. While I don’t believe there is too much room for sentiment in the business world, I certainly like the idea that Magan Commerce can also mean to be able to exchange ideas and opinions. Ironically, that is a pleasing sentiment.
At any rate, as you read through this information, never forget the principle behind it, and behind the company, which produced it. That you and I ARE ABLE. We are able to do business, we are able to exchange ideas and opinions, and in doing so, we are able to create for ourselves the financial security that brings peace of mind.
